RE: Going to look at trailers today.

Our plan this year was to take mini trips and stay in B & Bs. I haven't done the math but at $125 a night minimum for a B & B I think things have evened out on expenses between the trailer and cost of a room plus gas for the car. This is not counting the cost of the new toy but you can't put a price on recreation. Wish me luck! Plus food costs (by not eating out) will be less, entertainment is already provided, (t.v., movies, hiking, sightseeing, campfires, other RVers, etc) and where you can go is unlimited! Just decide on a destination, head that way and enjoy all you see on your journey. You don't have to worry about where you are going to sleep or cleanliness. And if you can stay in a National Forest or BLM land, there is no cost for overnighting. Hope all turns out well. Let us know, okay? Happy Trails, Okie

RE: One of my favorites

Why would you not want to see inside of the cabinets? The cabinets in the bedroom are over the bed and can be seen as you come into the trailer and when standing in the kitchen area. We keep our tee shirts, shorts, jeans etc up there because there is no other place to put them. I just didn't like how it looked to see the stacks of clothes in the cabinet. The other one is over the couch where I keep the cups/glasses on one side and cd/dvds on the other. I didn't like how these stacks looked either. The rest of my cabinets are solid wood. It looks very nice now. It sounds as if it looks very nice. I will keep this in mind should my next RV have the same type of cabinets. I would like to see some pics if possible. I will take a couple this weekend.

RE: Where can I find picnic tablecloth/bench?

I also use the vinyl tableclothes cut in half for the benches. For both the table and benches, I put a bungy cord around each end, fastened underneath. This keeps everything in place.

RE: Question for RV'ers

Dear outdrmike, I am sorry you were lambasted by some. I realize you were stating an observation and a curiosity about the people around you. The opinions of some, as to why your neighbors were unseen, could have been stated in a kinder manner. I wish you Happy Trails, Okie

RE: Previous post of 8/24/08 leaky Cherokee

My first TT, rookie mistake. Not to worry, most of our stories have our mistakes in them. That is the only way one learns, by our own mistakes or hearing of someone else's. Some of the stories actually become funny with the passing of time. Welcome aboard and Happy Trails, Okie

One of my favorites

Our TT has cabinet doors that although the glass is patterned (makes inside look distorted) you could still see items inside. So, rather than replace the glass, I got a roll of static held window film that you would use in your car. I got the "Limo tint" which is very dark. I cut this to fit, put it on the inside of the glass, smoothed and presto! You can't see through it anymore. It was very easy to do. If we sell the TT, or decided to remove the tint, all we have to do is peel it off. There is no glue or adhesive of any kind. I don't have pictures, but will take a couple this weekend.

RE: outside shower mat

Check out this mat available at Camping World. They work great. I had one, used it twice before my M-I-L broke it. There is a limit to how much weight it can withstand. It will NOT support 350+ pounds. portable shower deck Ditto. Works great.

RE: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like you are off to a GREAT start! Many Happy Trails, Okie Thanks, Okie! I sure hope so! We've been out a few times, and had a blast. Every time my toddler rides in my truck, he always asks "Daddy? Hook up camper?" So I'm pretty sure he has as much fun as we do. It's a great feeling to pass the experiences I had on to another generation. I say the same thing to my DH everytime I get in his truck! LOL :D Don't forget to post more pictures!

RE: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here we go. New RVers. Just brought this one home from RVWholesalers this weekend. Haven't even had a chance to camp in it yet. Lots to learn. I grew up camping in a pop-up with my family, and all the fond memories made me want to pass the experience on to my son. But Dad did the work when I was a kid, and now I'm the Dad. I just hope I can measure up! http://www.geocities.com/jase7192/camper640.jpg Looks like you are off to a GREAT start! Many Happy Trails, Okie

RE: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my Terry.. the day after bringing it home. Purchased it from my in laws who had it for 19 of the 21 Years of it's life and has been well cared for. http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii209/jtslj/Terry/100_2378.jpg We have to back in between a light pole and concrete wall on one side and the garage on the other.... My DH has gotten very good at it so I try not to watch :D I will go out and tell him when to stop... Biggest problem is that the light pole is about a foot in from the our side of the concrete wall and since the it belongs to the city, we can't move it....:( Your Terry is in wonderful condition! I know you will have many happy years and travels in it! Okie

RE: Jayco 218 Modifications

I had the same problem with running a fan in our bedroom using the t.v. plug in. What I did was buy a 12 volt extension cord - it fits the receptacle and runs the fan very well. I do keep the extension cord bundled so it doesn't fall all over the place. I got the extension cord at Walmart. Thought you might want to know the result of the call from Jayco. The fella said not to be afraid to force the plug into the receptacle and to turn it. Sometimes something like a fan has only two thingies instead of four or so. I went out, did as he said, and voila, it worked! I told him about your suggestion and he said that would work, too, but the Jayco receptacle is tight. While I'm reporting that all is well, I would recommend the Endless Breeze fan in a NY minute. It really pushes the air (can't think of when I'd need to set it on 3) and only draws 2.8 amps and will come in handy for my pups in the truck and when camping without hookups. I have no affiliation with the makers of this fan--just thought to pass it along to those of you who have dogs or boondock.:B Glad you got a good solution. We too could force the plug into the outlet, but when unplugging it, it seemed like it was going to pull the ceiling down with it. That is why I went with the extension cord. Your plug probably has more support behind it. I am really glad you have a good outcome to the problem. I would like an Endless Breeze, but they are just too costly for us right now. I will add that to our "wanna get" list. Happy Trails, Okie

RE: Jayco 218 Modifications

Hi, I have the same trailer. Love it. Love your mods-especially the doors to make access to storage easier. One simple thing that I've done was use a 3 hook over-the door hook to hang facing out over the bathroom--handy for jackets or dog leashes or whatever. I have a question. In fact, Jayco is going to call me. I bought a 12 volt Endless Breeze fan to run in my truck if I have to leave my dogs for a few minutes in warm weather. I thought it would be great to use in the camper, as well, when I have no hook-ups, but it doesn't work in the 12 volt receptacle. I notice that it says for 12 volt TV only, but I would think it doesn't mean *only* TV--will find out, soon, however. Love your pics. Thanks for posting them. I had the same problem with running a fan in our bedroom using the t.v. plug in. What I did was buy a 12 volt extension cord - it fits the receptacle and runs the fan very well. RE: Traveling times

I drove from Southern Maryland to Casper, Wyoming in three days, 1950 miles. First day, 900 miles to Nebraska, second day 700 miles to Cheyanne, third day 300 miles into Casper. I can't figure out the route you took from Cheyenne to Casper. It is only 178 miles from one to the other. :?

RE: Disappointed!

Please clarify for me. What is considered a "small travel trailer"? Ours is about 26 foot - bumper to ball. Is this a small trailer? I have really enjoyed and learned from this category and did not feel as if I shouldn't be here.

RE: How much water carried when traveling

We always travel with a full fresh water tank. We boondock so there is no water available before setting up camp. We have camped only twice in a real campground with full hookups. I liked it! But nothing beats setting down in the National Forest with all that beauty and peace around you.

RE: Does TT size matter?

We camp with friends that have 33+ foot 5ers - we can get into the best places in the mountains or at the lake. We still get to set up camp all together but there have been times when they have had to parallel the dirt roads while we can snuggle into the trees! For the 2 of us and our 2 furkids, our 26 foot TT is just right for us! I think rebel175 has it exactly right! Size really doesn't matter. (Unless it is too big to go great places!)
